Taryn’s Bachelorette Party (or Joyfully Painting and Singing in Ugly Dresses)

I am so terribly excited that I almost can’t contain it.  Two of my very favorite people in the whole wide world are getting married this weekend.  And everyone knows that first comes love, second comes Jonathan convincing us to help him string a boat load of Christmas lights together, third comes a bachelorette party, and then comes marriage.  Oh!  There’s a nail appointment in there somewhere too!

We painted such pretty trees.

We painted such pretty trees.

For the Bachelorette Party we decided to try out Canvas By U out in East Cobb.  I’ve seen advertisements and Groupons to places similar to Canvas By U for quite a while.  The concept: you show up, they give you a canvas and painting supplies, an instructor shows you how to create the painting, AND you can bring along your favorite beverage.  Alcoholic or non.  They have a calendar on their website that shows what the night’s painting is going to be(it changes pretty much every night) so that you can pick something you’d actually like to work on and take home, and no experience is necessary.  I thought the painting we did, snowy winter trees, was actually quite pretty.  My mom even hung it up on the wall under the condition that it goes down after Christmas: that’s love.

You may (or may not) have noticed the terrible dresses we’re wearing, and, dear reader, we have Pinterest to blame for that.  Best worst idea ever goes to whomever first suggested going to Goodwill and finding the ugliest old bridesmaid dresses possible and wearing them paint balling.  We’re not really the paint ball kind of group, but we did assume that we’d get a little messy at Canvas By U, and this way we wouldn’t lament the loss of good clothes.  Shopping for these dresses was hilarious.  I’ve discovered a universal truth  that the larger dresses tend to be the uglier ones…eventually I caved and bought my lovely red number which I then had to take in…a lot.  Plus I added a giant flower or four.  I was more than a little jealous of the flowers on Jenny’s dress, I’ll admit it.

After Canvas By U, Jess left us, and we headed out to a Brunswick Bowling Alley for a karaoke night hosted by a friend of Patty and Jenny.  I managed to croak out a stellar “We Didn’t Start the Fire” (I had lost my voice the week before).  Taryn, of course, had to sing “Going to the Chapel”, and Patty and Jenny had to show us all up because they can actually sing…

In the slideshow I feel like you can more fully appreciate the wonderful awfulness of our dresses.  And Taryn’s hat.  Because how much fun is that hat?

One of my favorite moments of the evening had to be the random man who decided to dedicate a song to Taryn.  He told her to imagine Jonathan serenading her with “One in a Million.”  So, for everyone who knows Jonathan, there’s your laugh for the night.

Lastly, because I know somebody will ask me where they are if I don’t add them in, you get some happy dancing pictures.  I cannot for the life of me remember what it was that Jenny and Patty were dancing to, but half of the room was doing it.  11/25 Update–Jenny and Patty were wobbling. Apparently, Taryn, Shelli, Donna and I don’t fit into the cool kids crowd.  But Taryn and I did boogie for a bit while waiting for the bartender to bring me my bill.  We would all probably hate lines a bit less if we were dancing while waiting in them.  That said, I’m fairly certain that I would have gotten my bill a good deal sooner was I actually standing there paying attention.  I think it was a fair trade.

In case I don’t have a chance to pop on ye ole blog again in the next couple of days, I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!  I’ve spent all week listening to turkey songs, and I pray that you’re Thanksgivings are all turkey song free–not that I don’t appreciate good old Burt and Albaququerque, but their songs are true earworms. 🙂
