I just got done being an insanely brave person: yes, dear readers…I had to get a blood test done. For those of you who don’t know, I’m terrified of needles (let’s not sugar coat it), but I cope. And I’m feeling insanely brave right now. The only thing that could’ve made the experience better would be if the nurse had stopped asking me if I was going to pass out.
Which, in his defense, is probably a legit question. I’m sure a lot of people that are afraid of needles actually do pass out whilst claiming they’re not going to pass out and so he really does need to ask that about twenty times to make certain the answer he’s getting is actually the correct answer. Lest I lie to him and then promptly flop to the floor like a fish.
In my case, one of the many coping mechanisms that I use to get through this horrible experience that essentially turns my innards to jello, is to tell myself that I’m some herculean warrior princess (think Xena) and that herculean warrior princesses get through things they’re afraid of all the time. Herculean warrior princesses do not pass out. They just don’t.
And if I were to pass out, then the nice feeling of “you can conquer this fear” that I always get while giving blood that gets me through the awful task at hand might disappear and then I’d be that kid again who needed seven nurses to hold her down to get a shot (Yes, seven. The doctors office remembers me. 🙂 ). Hopefully the answer will always be “no, I’m not going to pass out.”
In other news (because I honest to goodness did not intend for anyone to have to hear me ramble on about my phobia), big things are happening here at ‘The Scribbler Experiment’.
- I think pretty much all of the GNFCC ended up on my website yesterday and today to check out the Flickr page photos; so if you’re here from the Chamber, welcome! Thanks for stopping by!
- I have officially decided that I’m cosplaying Kamala Khan from the new Ms. Marvel. Hopefully that’ll be done for Momocon. Updates soon!
- The E in “Secret Project E” is for Embroidery. Also it’s not really a secret, although maybe it is because I hid it waaaaay down here at the bottom of the page. I didn’t even put it as #1. It’s #3 to throw you off the scent or something.
- The newspaper article about me is actually going to happen. The Appen news journalist told me it was going to be in “next week’s”…so I’m assuming that’s next weeks Alpharetta/John’s Creek Herald that comes out midweek. Keep your eyes open for it. And no. This does not make up for what they did. Stealing is wrong. Period. I appreciate the kind gesture to try and “make up for it”, but that doesn’t make stealing any less wrong.
- And lastly, on a more happy note (because I don’t have to get blood drawn for another year! I need to end this on the happiest of happies! I leave you with one last picture and let you puzzle it out. It might show up as a coloring page/bookmark set soon, and it will hopefully also appear as a fancier version of #3 up above en my Etsy shop. But shhhh…it’s a secret!
